I highly recommend IPOWER's hosting service.  I've been using it for 6+ years.  I know that in this "Age of the Blog" (blech) that personal websites are virtually irrelevant.  But look at it from a different perspective.  First, it's fun to own your own site.  You can have a fun email address like This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Second, you can do a totally wacky layout that would be nearly impossible at a bloggin' site.  Third, it's awesome to be able to say that you have your own website.  All this for as little as $4/month!

In that time, I've only had 2 dramas and 4(-ish) minor problems.  In all instances, I used the site's Live Help and got immediate fixes within minutes (with one bizarre exeption).  I cannot stress the advantage of the Live Help enough.  I have friends who use other services and they have to email and wait for a response to problems.  (Losers!)

For you UNIX lovers (me included), I'll warn you right now that there is no command prompt login.  I use a content management system on most of my sites, so this hasn't been a problem, but I thought I'd let y'all know.  But if typing in commands scares the Jeebus out of you, you'll find the vDeck control panel to be extremely powerful and helpful.

This leads me to the best feature.  IPOWER has "one-click" installation of dozens of web tools (blogs, CMS, bulletin boards, store fronts, etc.)  You can have a fully functioning site up and running in a matter of minutes!

I recommend the PRO Plan and paying a year in advance, but there are a lot of great options to pick from.  Plus, if you click on one of the links on this site, you'll be supporting Machine Code Games' development!

I also want to add that while the ad on the left says 15GB transfer and 1.5GB storage, it's actually unlimited now as long as you are doing reasonable activities on your site.
